Dedh Ishqiya (2014) by Abhishek Chaubey is an Indian black-comedy thriller film, starring Madhuri Dixit as Begum Para, Naseeruddin Shah as Ifthekhar alias Khalujaan, and Arshad Warsi as Razzaakh Hussain alias Babban. Abhishek Chaubey’s movie has received rave reviews from critics. Dedh Ishqiya is a sequel of Ishqiya. The story begins by showing a thief duo, Khalujaan and his nephew Babban, posing as nawabs at a jewellery shop. They steal a prized necklace from the shop, and the chases after them. The duo splits up. Many months later, Babban finally finds his uncle. Khalujaan, posing as a nawab, is attending a poetry contest. Organised by the widowed Begum of Mahmudabad, Begum Para, this event is to find a new Nawab of Mahudabad. The poet who wins the contest will get to marry the begum. Babban falls in love with Begum Para's quick-witted and mysterious assistant Muniya (Huma Qureshi). Abhishek Chaubey’s film then reveals a plan to kip the Begum. Things get further complicated when a local goon Jaan Mohammed (Vijay Raaz) joins the poetry contest. To impress Begum Para, Khalujaan gives her his stolen necklace. Much to his dismay, she chooses Jaan Mohammed as the winner of the contest, and thus as her new husband and Nawab of Mahmudabad. Khalujaan goes to meet the Begum, but she gets kipped by a ed man. Khalujaan stops the kipping and realises that Babban is the kipper. The nephew tells his uncle about the plan to extort money from Jaan Mohammad. So Babban calls the new nawab and demands a random of INR 10 crores. Jaan Mohammad arrives, but he comes along with his goons. The also land up at the scene, and soon Babban and Khalujaan are behind bars. The major twists and turns in the plot of Dedh Ishqiya can keep viewers engaged and entertained. The songs are composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and Pandit Birju Maharaj choreographed Madhuri Dixit‘s dance sequence. Dedh Ishqiya’s Hindi Blu-ray disc, released by Shemaroo in 2014, has English subtitles. The movie is rated as U/A (Parental Guidance), and has a run time of 152 minutes.
